Dr Gurib-Fakim GSCK is a scientist, Author, Entrepreneur and Academic.
She graduated from the University of Surrey before completing a PhD from Exeter University in Organic Chemistry. In academia, Dr Gurib-Fakim was a professor of chemistry at the University of Mauritius with her work focussing on the study of medicinal and aromatic plants of the Indian Ocean.
She became Dean of the Faculty of Science as well as Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University. After leaving academia she became the managing director of her own scientific research organisation "CIPD Research and Innovation".
Dr Gurib-Fakim was the Chairperson for the International Council for Scientific Union – Regional Office for Africa prior to becoming the President of Mauritius.
She has been awarded numerous national and international awards for her work including the African Union Women in Science award and the L'Oréal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science for Africa.
